Advanced Couples Therapy Training Group
John Howard, LPC, LMFT offers a popular and rigorous experiential training group in couples therapy that includes attachment-oriented therapy and the application of interpersonal neurobiology, based on his own experience and years of training with top theorists. John integrates PACT, Gottman Method therapy, EFT and more, including his own developing approach, Presence Therapy, which focuses on developing in-the-moment skills and helping partners harness the opportunity for personal and relational growth embedded in their relationship experience.
John was 1 of 12 couples therapists in the world chosen to form the founding faculty of the PACT Institute after 6 years of dedicated study with PACT Founder Dr. Stan Tatkin including serving as his first teaching assistant in the PACT trainings. John left the faculty to focus on his own relationship health education company, Ready Set Love®, which gives couples neuroscience-based exercises that develop their relationship muscles. John is also Certified Level II in Gottman Method couples therapy and has researched and written articles on Dr. Sue Johnson’s Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). John presents at psychological conferences nationally, is a faculty presenter with Dr. Diane Poole-Heller’s Therapy Mastermind, and has led a relationship wellness program at Google, Inc. After 10 years of experience working with challenging and complex couples cases, John brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to helping de-mystify advanced couples work and helping you become more confident working with couples.
This study group involves some didactic learning, case consultation, and experiential practice of methods. The practice is the key part that many other study groups do not offer. Because John’s approach to therapeutic change is primarily experiential, he believes that practicing methods is key to feeling confident in implementing new approaches and growing as a clinician. If you are a therapist or a graduate student in counseling and wish to specialize on couples therapy or simply learn new and advanced methods in the field, feel free to send us an email indicating your interest. The training covers modern couples therapy methods, interpersonal neurobiology, affective neuroscience, mindfulness, regulation theory, attachment theory, somatic strategies and experiential couples therapy.

Study Group in Spirituality and Mindfulness
John Howard, a longtime non-denominational spiritual director, offers spirituality and mindfulness study groups. These groups have both professional clinicians and non-mental-health professionals as members. The groups are experiential and combine study of universal spiritual growth concepts with dedicated mindfulness and contemplative practice time. The groups are non-denominational–all beliefs and non-beliefs are welcome. John combines methodologies common to many of the world’s mystical traditions and ancient spiritual wisdom gleaned from various cultures with his own real-world experience studying and teaching spiritual growth for over 20 years.
